TREKKING ON THE TRAILS ON A PLEASANT, WARM FALL DAY
Odiorne Point State Park的点评
点评:Odiorne Point State Park is sizeable park of 334 acres. About 40% of its acreage is along the seashore from which one can enjoy scenic views of the Gulf of Maine and the Atlantic Ocean.
The park’s size and location are conducive to a variety of activities.
There is whole network of trails for hiking and bicycling as well as a playground for the youngsters.
The park has a boat launch. There are areas for fishing.
One will find a good number of picnic tables.
In season, the restrooms are open.
Some people enjoy climbing on the rocks and exploring the shoreline.
One of the main attractions in the park is the Seacoast Science Center, a wonderful place for learning for children and adults about the ocean and the creatures that live in it. There are salt water tanks that display some of them. The skeleton of a juvenile whale hangs from the ceiling. One will find many exhibits there.
The grounds also include the remnants Fort Dearborn which was created during World War II and was active 1942 to 1947. Its primary purpose was to protect the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Portsmouth Harbor as well as the New Hampshire and Maine coastline.
A point of interest is the First Settlers Monument dated 1623 – 1899. It was apparently the mentality of the residents at the time the monument was put there in 1899 in belief that the English settlers were the first to settle the area. Today, we know better.
On my most recent visit on a warm sunny day in early November, I took a closer look at the remains of Fort Dearborn and walked some of the trails.
I rate Odiorne Point State Park at 4.50 and can recommend a visit.
