MANY HANDS-ON EXHIBITS FOR THE YOUNGSTERS
Seacoast Science Center的点评
点评：One of the most interesting things at the Seacoast Science Center was the 32-foot skeleton of a juvenile humpback whale named Tofu that met her end in the Gulf of Maine. The skeleton hangs above some interactive exhibits that tell all about whales.
The youngsters really enjoy handling the sea stars, scallops, and sea urchins in the interactive touch tanks.
The scientists of the center go beyond studying just the creatures that live in the sea. They are also involved with researching common terns out on the Isles of Shoals where there is a very large colony of them. I learned that their average life span is 9 – 10 years, but other species can live as long as 30 years and possible longer.
Although most of the exhibits are aimed at elementary school-age children, older children and adults can enjoy them.
The staff here is great.
This was a re-visit for me. I brought my cousin Jane, a second grade teacher, here 10+ years ago when she came for a summer visit. We both enjoyed it very much. And, the center has developed quite a bit since then.
On the November day of this visit, it was quite busy.
Additionally, there’s more to explore outside on the center grounds and at the water’s edge and then on to other areas of Odiorne Point State Park.
I rate the Seacoast Science Center at 4.50 and can recommend a visit, especially for families with elementary school-age children.
The reason for the delay in submitting this review was due to a months-long loss of my ability to post photos with my reviews and some health issues.
