点评：Mohamed was our guide through the south of Morocco, in to the Sahara and back. What was an unplanned, last-minute trip became the highlight of my incredible month in Morocco. I wanted to explore not just the desert, but the customs, people, places; to experience community; and most of all, to learn and partake in Amazigh culture. Mohamed was instrumental in creating for me exactly the experience I was searching for but didn't know how to curate.
He is a wealth of knowledge on Morocco, its places, history, customs, nature, language. Through all this, he shared colour through his deep roots in his Amazigh culture and people. I feel extremely privileged that he chose tho share his traditions with me, explain his language, the nuances, and bring this to life through the various places we travelled through, and the people we met. His approach to working together with local guides and communities is testament to his deep respect and honouring of his people. It allowed us to see beneath the veil that tourists normally don't see beyond, for which I will be forever grateful.
Over the course of the 5 days we spent together, Mohamed approached all activities with the utmost of professionalism and organisation, whilst still joining us in companionship. I will always remember our day-trek around Todgha mountain to have tea with a nomadic family ("We are like goats, you know" when making the ascent); his love for the desert so apparent alongside his knowledge of the Atlas ("My language belongs to the mountains"); his love and joy of music, singing, and being free in the varied contours of his homeland.
From the bottom of my heart, tenmirt Mohamed, my friend, for the time we shared together, and the memories created. Inshallah, I look forward to returning to Morocco and trekking through the Atlas together one day!
