点评:I have been here before but there were a few parts of the trenches that I had missed so made a point of coming back 1/10/225. The museum itself is a hotch-potch of artifacts, pretty small and for the most part unlabelled, but interesting none the less. Some of the photographs are hard to look, they are pretty hard core.
The trenches are original, but have some reinforcing to maintain their walls, not surprising after 108 years. The jumble of trenches just shows you how messed up and complicated these huge trench systems could be. I think a bit of background reading first would help if you are more than just a casual observer. Learn how the trenches were laid out, forward, reserve and communication trenches running perpendicular to them.
There are tree stumps and a dead tree trunk from the war which has bullet and shrapnel holes, so with a bit of imagination you could visualise how bleak it would have been. Dont forget to visit the Canadian memorial and the cemetery you passed on the way up.
If you visit when its wet, bring wellies or boots, and if you venture into the tunnels bring a head torch.
Several of these reviews seem to expect everything to be laid out in front of you, labelled and lined up for your pleasure, they are not, if you want to go look at a genuine 1st world war trench site, then put some effort in, do some background reading, learn what was actually going on there, and your trip will be more rewarding. YT is your friend, there are many vids describing the area. Dont forget there are probably still unfound soldiers under these trenches.
I really enjoyed my second visit, I walked the tranches and woods alone, it was a gorgeous sunny October day, and you could hear the silence and be alone with your thoughts.
It is well worth a visit, just dont expect to be spoon fed.
