点评:We were glad we went to Old Alabama Town. We purchased the tickets at 301 Columbus St. in a building that has a gift shop. Note that their hours are Thurs-Sat: 10am-4pm and the adult tickets are $15/ea. You then walk to Lucas Tavern, 310 North Hull St: where the self-guided tour starts. At this site there are 11 different buildings. There were several groups of 4th graders who listened attentively to the docent. The Doctor’s Office and the Lucas Tavern were my favorite. At the second site a block away located on Columbus St. there were another 11 buildings – I found the Cotton Gin, Print Shop, Drugstore and Church fascinating. If you have children with you, you must definitely stop at Old Alabama Town for 1 ½-2 hours. There are restrooms at both sites. We had an interesting conversation with Jacob van Megen at the Lucas Tavern, he is the horticulturist at the Landmarks Foundation. If your schedule allows it and you are there during the week, have lunch at the Farmer’s Market Café at 315 McDonough St. (open from 11am to 2pm for lunch from Mon-Fri.)—real southern food.
