Closing the loop on a life (and a great museum visit!).
Hank Williams Memorial - Oakwood Annex Cemetery的点评
点评:The passing of Hank Williams on New Year’s Day in 1953 was equally inevitable (in retrospect), multifactorial, and tragic. Three days later one of the largest funerals the South had ever seen was held at the Montgomery Auditorium, and he was interred at the Oakwood Cemetery Annex soon thereafter. His ex-wife Audrey was buried next to him 22 years later, and the site has become one of the more popular pilgrimages in the South; it was covered in astroturf years ago because dedicated fans kept pilfering blades of grass as keepsakes. I made a logical visit after my trip to the museum. The entrance to the grave is clearly marked on Upper Wetumpka Road, and the right fork leads to the tomb. I spent maybe twenty minutes in the area, appreciating the views and examining the artistry. In addition to the obvious reason to make the visit, the experience was memorable for the serene hilltop setting and craftsmanship of the stone carvings at the gravesite. A recommended and appropriate stop after seeing the museum. Thumbs up.
