点评:In Stowe for spring, but have only been here in winter previously. Saw Smuggler’s Notch Boardwalk as a place to explore (plus other smuggler’s spots). Weather was nice, so we drove over. Parking said only 30 min (think that was it?) but was off season, building was closed, and no one else parked there at the time, so we weren’t worried. Plus, the boardwalk is easy to do in that time.
We decided to do the trail (1.5 mile around, loops back to parking lot), after the boardwalk, as it was so pretty along the boardwalk.
However, not too far along, we saw a black bear sitting ahead, on the trail. Previously had training on what to do if encounter bears (where lived previously, many around). Black bears usually leave if make noise, etc; she stood up, but didn’t leave. That’s when we noticed her 2 babies (pictured is zoom’d we were MUCH further back- can see me of the babies to her right in the bushes). We backed up until safe to turn around & left, went back to boardwalk, & back to our vehicle. She never came toward us.
Recommend going, just be aware of your surroundings. Don’t try to approach wildlife, be smart & always enjoy from a safe distance.
