点评:It sort of goes without saying, but if you are an Elvis fan then Graceland is an absolute must. To walk through his home, explore the museums, and see all his gold records and jumpsuits are things we’ll always remember.
The on line purchasing was very easy. There are a number of tour options. We booked the one with the audio guide and for the huge price difference between that and a guided tour the audio was just fine. (I sort of eavesdropped on the guided tours and they didn’t say anything that I - as a lifelong Elvis fan- didn’t already know). The audio could use a little updating as others have noted following the death of Lisa Marie Presley.
We visited the on a Tuesday in early October and there were not many people at all. No real waiting in line for the shuttles to and from the mansion. The museums were wide open so you could really take your time and experience everything.
A couple of things to note however. You do not get to see the upstairs of the mansion. This should not surprise anyone as this had always been the case and is well known. Yet, there are still people who complain about it in their reviews. So, do your homework.
The other thing to note is that there is definitely a narrative being presented here. You see the Elvis that EPE wants you to see. It’s “Elvis the Legend” with the glitz and the cars and the planes and the outfits as opposed to Elvis the man who struggled with his own demons and foibles. Not that it has to be sensationalized. There is a way to respectfully address these things. But I cannot recall seeing one photo of him after 1975 or so. There’s no real mention of his health issues, drug use, etc. And that is a shame. Because it’s part of the story. Elvis represented both the Great American Success Story and the Great American Tragedy. And to really understand Elvis the man, you need to understand both.
