A unique Halloween event
Elizabethan Gardens的点评
点评：We visited The Gardens for their Night of 1587 Pumpkins event. While there weren't as many plants in bloom in October, this was still a beautiful place for an evening walk! Some highlights included the shrubbery around the fountain, the path leading through the live oaks to the water, and the adorable "gnome hut" (as we called it). We also liked how the park is circular; we felt like we were less likely to miss anything that way.
Some pros & cons about the event itself:
PROS - 1. The colorful lights made for a wonderfully spooky atmosphere once it got dark!
2. The setup of the Halloween events on the big lawn was very organized & there were several different booths offering everything from crafts to snacks.
3. Every staff member we met was very friendly & helpful, even encouraging us to take part in "kids' activities" like temporary tattoos.
4. The Gardens never felt overcrowded, even though there were plenty of people there.
CONS - 1. There were not 1,587 pumpkins as we'd thought. There were lots, and we really enjoyed seeing them all lined up along the path!--but definitely not that many.
2. The activities were pretty much all geared towards a younger audience. This isn't really a con, and we expected as much, but for a couple in their later 20s we found ourselves pretty much ready to go once we'd circled the Gardens a few times. Maybe if we went back, we'd actually participate in the costume contest!
Overall, though, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely consider going back in a warmer season to see more in bloom. You can tell that everyone who works here actually loves what they do and the Gardens are maintained beautifully. Definitely a historic gem!
