点评:Unfortunately a disappointing experience. The entire experience was a very watered down version of history that ultimately focused on money and the glorification of the original land owners. The grounds around the main house are beautiful, however the house tour focused on the lives of the rich white owners; not the story of the slaves, servants etc.
There’s a small hut off to one side, but again instead of talking about the slavery, the tragedies that unfolded, it was a film about sugar production, machinery and shipping. There’s a gift shop that basically sells branded merchandise, food and crocodile heads, again, nothing in relation to the plantation or its history.
We joined a talk at the end of the day which started to go into detail about the slavery and the overall history of the plantation which was good, so this really should’ve been the main theme of the experience.
Overall really disappointing as we all know that slavery existed and what went on, but it would’ve been good to learn a lot more about the lives and the stories of the slaves, as well as the ultimate ending to slavery and their freedom, instead of feeling like you’re in a commercial tourist trap that effectively white washes history.
