点评:An Astonishing Diverse Collection of Art.
This gallery in a small space has an amazing range of art from primitive work of indigenous people to modern masters. It is the sort of collection one would see in a major art gallery except that it can be seen in two or three hours.
In the modern art rooms, I recognized the names of almost all the artists. Some of the work is silly, some intense, some emotionally provocative and some make powerful statements about racism.
You can spend time in one room absorbing art created hundreds or thousands of years ago in indigenous cultures, another with European work from the 4th through 12th centuries and then be in another room with the work of Rauschenberg and his fabric pieces combined with modern dance and the music of John Cage.
All of the work is the best in its class, including Yves Tanguy, René Magritte, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, and Pablo Picasso. Many of the pieces I had only seen in books.
And it is free! And there were four other buildings we didn’t get around to seeing.
