点评:One of our highlights of our trip to Michigan. Dh wanted to see a Great Lake for the first time and he suggested Lake Erie. This was the best option closest to metro Detroit as we made our way east from Metro Airport. Easy access south from I-94 to Telegraph to I-75.
Roads in the park could have had better signage, but our getting turned around resulted in stopping at the Marshlands Museum, which was a big plus in our visit. It was a great place to learn about the marshlands, the area history, flora, fauna, and inhabitants. Bathrooms and a vending machine with drinks are available here.
We saw Lake Erie at the picnic area, edged by native plants and flowers, as well as Grosse Isle and other islands at the mouth of the Detroit River. The smoke from the Canadian forest fires obscured much of the lake view, but we still liked seeing geese swimming along the shore. People were fishing there and a professional photographer was shooting portrait pictures of someone during our visit, so it was apparent that others liked the park the way we did.
Would love to return next time we are back up here.
