点评:After visiting Blaenavon Big Pit with friends, I decided to visit a Mining Memorial to pay my respects to those affected by mining. My family took me to Senghenydd where we were greeted by a friendly volunteer.
It was a lovely place to reflect.
The volunteer suggested a local museum to visit in a community centre. It was very difficult to find but it was a lovely place to visit. They were closed but a volunteer in the office opened up the museum for us. We were played a short film, handed leaflets and saw interesting displays. We saw lamps, pocket watches and lunchboxes that the minors would’ve used. There were also photographs and small models of the mining valley. It highlighted that the statistics we’d learnt about were real people. Learning about the mining disasters and families left behind with empty seats at the dining table -heartbreaking.
