点评:I hate to criticize - the museum is comprehensive and worthwhile. We spent over 6 hours at the 3 venues.
However, I was disappointed that there were few aural histories and personal experiences such as in other military museums we've visited. I thought that the various artifacts were not displayed in ways to help visitors build an understanding of the WWII Pacific war. To fully learn from the exhibits, a visitor must be prepared to read numerous signboards and follow battle sequences that are available as "interactive" exhibits. "interactive" is probably a mis-label - simply hit one button and follow the visuals. I felt the same information could have been gleaned from a textbook.
I'm quite familiar with the Pacific campaigns and had greatly looked forward to this long planned visit. Sad to relate that the museum failed to provide me with any greater understanding, anecdotes, or even trivia. Based on my experience, I would say this is a good place to start learning - if one is prepared to do a lot of reading.
It is perhaps unfair to compare, but even taking into consideration the limited scope of the Museum of the Pacific War, its presentations rank far below sites such as the New Orleans National WWII Museum, Canberra's Australian War Memorial, and London's Imperial War Museum. I would even compare it unfavorably with specialized WWII presentations and museums such as in Dayton's Air Force Museum and Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Charleston, SC.
