点评:I have never driven in the refuge, so it was my first time. The roads are dirt, but all are in excellent condition, and you could drive on all of them with a car with no problems. Of course, if dry conditions, it will be very dusty.
I would recommend taking a pair of binoculars with you since some of the fields are quite large and long distance from road to woods in some fields.
I live in Florida most of the year, although from NC and still have a second home in Nags Head. I see numerous alligators here and there are some big boys, but we saw the biggest alligator I have ever seen in the canal right beside the road, not more than 15-20 yards away. Finally came out of the water and partially on the bank and that bad boy had to be in the 11-12 foot range.
Did not see any bears, but if you take the road running parallel to the landfill, that is where my sister-in-law said they saw them in the small brush beside the road or in the field.
There are miles of roads and suggest that you get a map at the west entrance, but if not available, just use common sense and you will not have any problems driving around.
It is worth the drive.
