点评：The Great Temple in Petra ended up being one of those places that really surprised us. It’s not as instantly dramatic as the Treasury or the Monastery, but once you step inside, you quickly realise just how massive this place actually is.
Spread out over a huge area with wide staircases, towering columns, and open courtyards, it’s easy to imagine this as a central hub of daily life rather than just a single monument. Wandering through the ruins, you can still spot decorative details, remnants of columns, and even traces of painted plaster, which gives you a glimpse into how impressive it must’ve looked in its prime.
What we really liked about the Great Temple was how relaxed it felt. It’s far less crowded than Petra’s headline attractions, so you can explore at your own pace, sit down, and really take it all in. It’s the kind of place where you slow down and start appreciating Petra as a living city, not just a collection of iconic photo spots.
If you’ve got the time and energy to explore beyond the main trail, the Great Temple is well worth a visit. It adds another layer to Petra and shows just how complex and sophisticated the Nabataean city really was.
