most people walk from drake bay to playa san josecito, then hitch a boat ride back to drake bay around mid day. drake bay has many lodging options and tend to be more budget friendly
but the quieter and more beautiful sister beach is surely playa rincon de san josecito. this beach is an extra 30 min walk south of playa josecito
I recommend staying towards this end of the coastline on northern osa peninsula for better scenery. high clearance vehicles can access the road up to rascarey, a NGO working on turtle conservation. during dry season, there are 2 shallow river crossing when coming from drake bay. even a small SUV like suzuki vitara can pass.
after rascarey, calle san pedrillo turns into a narrow dirt trail that is only accessible by foot. the downside for staying at this part of the coastline is water can be quite rough. so some boat companies refuse to pick up guests directly in front but instead urge you to wait for them at playa san josecito instead, which is a long walk away at 6 am in the morning.
