点评:We were heading down to Hourtin Plage near Lacanau and wondered whether to use this ferry crossing the Gironde estuary or to drive further and head around the Bordeaux ring road. The review left earlier in July helped us immensely (thank you) and we decided to try the ferry. We travelled on a Monday afternoon so I cannot comment on weekend traffic. The ferry port is difficult to find, even though the earlier review had told us to look for signs, we still found this hard. So, our advice is to try and come into Royan and to the small port along the Avenue de Pontaillac (not along the sea front). Yellow signs were along this road simply saying 'Pointe Grave' and I suspect that when it is very busy this is the road that the queue overflows onto. Once you're on this road it's straight down to the ferry car park and you will see signs. I suspect this car park only fits one boat-load so if you end up queuing on the road you're at least a crossing away. We arrived and we able to park on the car park. The boat itself is small but relatively nice with indoor and outdoor seating, toilets and somewhere to buy snacks and drinks from. The crossing was quick (25mins) and saved a lot of driving. I'd recommend it but maybe check on Google maps for the length of any queues along the road by the port in Royan before you decide. At the other end there seems to be a lot of local cafés and services so it looks good for a return journey too.
