Hadrian's Wall Path的点评
点评：Truly inspiring walk, a fantastic combination of natural scenery with Roman ruins including the amazing wall itself. The route adds up to almost 100 miles if you do the whole path as some accommodation may be up to half a mile from the path. If you are a member of English Heritage entrance to the forts is free. Some of the terrain is very steep so you need to be reasonably fit. We took eight days which is a good pace leaving time for rests, lunch and just admiring the wall.
If you want to see the fort at Vindolanda you might want to stay two nights at Twice Brewed in the excellent Vallum Lodge, as the day before and after are long walks. A visit to Housesteads Fort is also worthwhile. We did West to East starting in Bowness on Solway and ending in Newcastle. There are a reasonable number of B+Bs, close to the path but I strongly recommend booking way in advance (we booked over six months before) to get the accommodation you want. You should also check the terrain as some legs will take longer than the mileage suggests.
Some B+Bs do an evening meal where pubs are far away. There are legs where there is little or no facilities but most b+bs will do a packed lunch - make sure you carry plenty of water. We used Hadrian's Haul to transport our suitcases so we only needed day packs. The weather is very changeable so you need full waterproofs it can change from sunny to wind and rain in an instant! Take walking poles for the steeper parts.
