点评：Wharton Park is clean and tidy with a little cafe offering snacks and drinks. There are not many gluten-free or vegan options. There are free toilets which are also very clean considering the number of users at peak times. There are three play areas for young and older children as we'll as an amphitheatre. The amphitheatre hosts live music and theatre so check the website for these free events (I highly recommend the Durham Brass Festival events!). At other times, children are free to play sports in the amphitheatre (there is a tennis court/football pitch as well as this). There is plenty of seating and a shared community garden which is worth a visit. The battery offers gorgeous panoramic views of the city, the cathedral and the castle, as well as the train station. I recommend viewing all day but particularly at sun rise or sunset. Parking is limited and there is a charge. The only negative is access; to gain entry on foot, visitors must walk up one of two steep hills which would be a challenge to a wheelchair user or anyone with a pushchair.
