点评:PROS
* It's a rock- a big rock
* It's an interesting geological structure which seems unstable and therefore is supported by pillars
* The area gives a great scenic panoramic view of the Shenandoah River near its confluence with the Potomac River
* Thomas Jefferson stood here, absorbed the same view that is seen today, and wrote about it
* The Appalachian Natural Trail passes it
* An easy uphill walk from the Lower Town of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
* Close to the historic Harpers Cemetery from the 1700s
CONS
* Moderately dangerous ledge despite iron railings to prevent mishaps
* No climbing nor standing on the rock itself
* Access only by foot on the Appalachian nature Trail
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... when I passed it during my Appalachian Nature Trail hike from the Visitors center to the Historic Lower Old Town.
It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the view and the scenery very much.
I also enjoyed reading the plaque inscriptions and imagining Thomas Jefferson standing on the precipice at the peak of the rock.
However, that's not what i saw- I saw a 69 year old cardiac patient, after heart attack and resuscitation and stents climbing up and down from the dangerous rock (see my "helpful" photos).
ADVICES
If you are in the area, it's not a long walk from the Lower Town, so visit it to enjoy the panoramic views.
