A Few Tips About Taormina's Cable Car

点评：Originally built in 1873, there have been a number of renditions making this cable car the “oldest” in Italy. Today it is a modern monocable system also known as an aerial tramway —was built in 1992 that has 4 cabins on each side. The cabins can carry up to 8 people, but our cable car was squeezed to allow 10 people. It takes 15 minutes to go up or down. About 680 passengers travel each hour, with over 800,000 people yearly.
The cable car—known as Funivia in Italian-- is an original way to cover the 800 feet difference between old Town Taormina and the beach area, particularly the famous Isola Bella beach. If you are lucky to be by the window, spectacular views await of the Sicilian coastline and the Ionian Sea.
For those that don’t want to take the cable car, you can take a bus or even a taxi down or up. There is a walkway that goes behind the Panoramic Hotel though. It takes a good 35 minutes or more to go up, less to come down. After doing the walk, we decided to take the cable car now on.
The price for a round trip (as of 2025) is 10 Euros; 6 Euros going one way. There is a Day Pass for 20 Euros; 85 Euros for the week.
