点评:My wife and I travel all over the world and attend operas wherever and whenever we can. We have long wanted to attend an opera in Santa Fe and on July 16, 2025, we had the opportunity to do so! We drove up to the venue from our hotel in Santa Fe a few hours early and took some snacks we had purchased so we could have a picnic. It was lovely, the venue is lovely, and the artistic and production quality of their presentation of Rigoletto was flawless - very, very well done. There was also a great pre-opera talk at 7:30, an hour before the opera started. So here's the problem - it was the PEOPLE! It was the worst behaved opera audience I have ever experienced. We spent money on nice seats in row F - way up front. Before the intermission, three people behind us took out food with cellophane wrappers and just started eating away, constantly crinkling the wrappers. We shushed them and asked them to be quiet, but they just carried on. I was going to speak to them at the end of intermission but they didn't return for the rest of the opera, but the fact that people are allowed to bring food into the seats and make all kinds of noise eating it is a failure. Also, in front of us were two middle aged women who pretty much talked through the performance, and whenever something with a beat came up, the woman in front of me moved her head from side to side like a metronome, like way over to each side, not just head nodding - it was so distracting. Another couple to our right talked a lot and were shushed by others sitting nearby several times. The Opera needs to do something about this - train their ushers better, make more announcements, do whatever they need to do to make it a pleasant environment. I think that it's such a magnificent venue, but people just go there to "be seen" and don't care about anyone else's quality experience of the music. I'll never waste my time by going back - there are too many great venues to view and hear opera.
