Really beautiful place and an interesting vineyard tour but expensive for what you get
Coddington Vineyard的点评
点评：Coddington Vineyard is a really beautiful place. The house and gardens are really very impressive. The tour was a relaxed affair, pausing at 4 spots by the vines while Peter shared information about how they came to own the vineyard, the grape growing process, and some of the challenges they've had. There was a huge amount of detail about pesticides used which made it very clear that this is not an organic operation in any way shape or form and put me off the wine a bit! Then we went and did our tasting (4 glasses plus the sparkling) and we also ordered two sharing platters.
It was a pleasant afternoon but we were gobsmacked when the bill came to £212 for 4 people. An ok talk, about 2 glasses of wine, and a small amount of cheese and meat (and a lot of bread). The breakdown was that the tour and 5 small glasses of wine were £39 per person. Then sharing platters were a ridiculous £28 each for a lot of bread, slice of of ham, 2 very thin slices of chorizo and 2 slice of prosciutto ham plus some cheese. The cheese was nice but the portions for two were stingy of Hereford Hop, stilton and cheddar. The meats looked like they were out of a supermarket multipack. The price did also include a bottle of wine per couple to take away but the only wine that was to my taste in tasting (the rose) was also sold out.
It was fun as a one-off but I can't see us going back. Three Choirs wine is comparable but tasting flights are much more generous and tour is much better (partly because they actualy make the wine on site, Coddington is just the vines). The food at Three Choirs is significantly higher quality and much better value.
