A Beautiful ‘Hidden’ Beach On The Wonderful Coastal Walk

点评：Fairlight Beach is a true locals beach, the first stop on the coastal walk that we completed recently, and one of several beautiful, secluded beaches. For us, the real draw is the pool, which was cold (in September) but absolutely fantastic, with the waves rolling over the edge occasionally like a natural wave pool. There are benches, toilets and a changing room, as well as foot showers. The beach itself is small but charming and on the occasions we visited, it was mostly young families making the most of a relaxing, uncrowded beach.
There is a but, although it has nothing to do with the beach or pool. The one disappointing aspect of our visits was that, on every occasion, there were dog walkers letting their dogs off their leash to run onto the beach and into the pool area. For those that don’t know, all these beaches are protected and dogs are not allowed - there is clear signage stating this throughout Sydney. Despite the fact that dogs on the path here have to be on a leash and can’t use the beach, we saw multiple people - which we assume are locals - either arriving with their pet off a leash to run onto the beach, or specifically removing the leash at the beach! Two small children were scared and upset when a large Alsatian barked at them and another lady took her dog to the pool gate so it could run and swim in the water, right in front of the sign stating no dogs! Personally, I found this apparent sense of entitlement to ignore the rules and do whatever they want quite astonishing. We had already spent two weeks in Townsville and the locals there consistently respected the rules. Why are the residents of Manly any different?
