点评：The Columbia River Maritime Museum is fascinating as one witnesses the strength of the elements. The confluence of the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean is one of the most treacherous, natural phenomenon of the Pacific Ocean. The recordings, histories, shipwreck maps, and simulated pitch of a Coast Guard boat gives new meaning of bravery to those who serve in the Coast Guard. Being strapped to the rails of a boat in roiling waters to keep from being thrown overboard, on a vessel that must be able to upright itself if flipped upside-down, and be self-baling, makes one pause for a self-evaluation of service to one's country. Admission also includes exploring a Coast Guard Cutter which accompanied a floating light house in the mouth of the Columbia which never was left unmanned. It gives one pause to think of living in close quarters, in open waters, for long periods of time. In addition, artifacts taken from the Peter Iredale is intriguing if you take the time to drive on the beach to view the remains of the Iredale which declines over time. This is true-maritime fascination at its best. At present the museum is expanding its exhibition space.
