Diamond Head doesn't disappoint
钻石头山的点评
点评：I headed up Diamond Head solo during my June trip and left grinning like I’d just discovered something special.
The trail is well-maintained and straightforward — easy paved sections inside the crater with old military bunkers and lush green slopes, then the long cool tunnel, followed by the steeper stairs and switchbacks. It’s a solid workout that gets your legs and lungs going, but very manageable if you’re in decent shape, even in your 50s. You feel the effort, but reaching the head is so worth it.
And those summit views? Absolute fire. Panoramic perfection with Waikiki laid out below, the Pacific sparkling out to the horizon, the rugged coastline, and the crater itself glowing in that golden light. One of Oahu’s iconic must-dos — the kind of spot that lives up to the hype.
I was climbing in my blue shorts and breezy white top, backpack on, when a friendly young guy offered to snap some photos. He caught me on those yellow stairs and got the perfect summit shots with the sunset behind me. We started chatting, the banter flowed naturally… and the adventure didn’t end when we came back down the trail. Solo traveler perks at their finest.
The whole hike mixes a little history, real effort, and views (and company) that hit different. It can get hot, so earlier is smarter.
Pro tip: Good shoes for the stairs and tunnel, bring water, take your time, and stay open to the unexpected — Diamond Head might surprise you in more ways than one.
