Classic Australian Surf Beach
Main Beach Yamba的点评
点评：Main Beach is a classic Australian surf beach, with a curve of golden sand and rolling waves. There’s a lot to love about this beach. It has just about the perfect combination of waves, ocean-pool, facilities, life-savers and a cafe.
The northern end is bounded by the headland with a tall, white lighthouse standing high above the beach, and at the southern end, a large ocean pool has been built into the rocks.
In the centre is the Yamba SLS (Surf Life Saving) clubhouse, a charming old building and home to one of NSW’s oldest lifesaving clubs.
We went down for an early morning swim, then found a seat at The Kiosk, a small cafe which sits just above the sand. We sat under the shade of their blue striped umbrellas with our coffees, just soaking up the atmosphere. A perfect start to the day.
From a practical point of view, the beach has everything you’d need. It's patrolled and the facilities (showers, toilets and change rooms) are very good.
The only drawback for some will be access. Although there is some free parking down near the beach, most of the parking is on the street above the beach which means you have to walk down a series of zig-zagging ramps and stairs. It’s a drag if you have small children and a lot of beach equipment.
TIP: If, like us, you want to explore a few Yamba beaches, there is an easy walk around the coastline that allows you to visit three. We walked past the Main Beach ocean pool, around the flat rocky part of the headland to tiny Convent Beach, then continued across the sand and followed the trail to the very long, sandy Pippi Beach. It’s a lovely walk and each of the beaches is quite different.
