点评:Located on Bull Street between Hull and Perry Streets in Savannah’s Historic District, Chippewa Square commemorates the Battle of Chippewa during War of 1812. My wife and I visited here in May 2025.
The most notable sight in the middle of the square is the statue of General James Oglethorpe, the founder of the colony of Georgia. Other sights around the square include the Savannah Theatre, the First Baptist Church, and the Eastman-Stoddard House.
Chippewa Square is probably best known as the setting for the bus bench scene in the movie Forrest Gump (where he said the famous line “…life is like a box of chocolates.”) Unfortunately for visitors, the bench is no longer there and has been moved to the Savannah History Museum.
While it doesn’t take very long to explore Chippewa Square, we found it to be a worthwhile visit.
