点评：The Brandywine Museum of Art is housed in a 19th-century mill enhanced with a steel and glass addition with wide circulation windows on each of the three floors that overlook Brandywine Creek, which today after heavy rains had become a racing brown river. We were lucky that three major exhibitions overlapped this week. "Tell me a Story Where the Bad Girl Wins: The Life and Art of Barbara Shermund"
Features photographs, letters, and original art of one of the first women cartoonists to work forThe New Yorker after its launch in 1925, where she she created nine covers and contributed hundreds of cartoons for the magazine. Her documenting of the social norms and life of the country between the two world wars was spot on. A second exhibition, This Earthen Door: Nature as Muse and Material, artists Leah Sobsey and Amanda Marchand took inspiration from Emily Dickinson’s deep connection to the natural world abd created a vibrant series of plant-based artworks. Emily Dickinson, in her early years, was interested in botany, and flowers and natural colors inspired her poetry and became the source of natural dyes featured in the prints. The Wyeth family inspires much in the collections at the Brandywine, and the third exhibit focused on "Andrew Wyeth at Kuerner Farm: The Eye of the Earth." Both the Wyeth family home and the neighboring farm are a short distance from the museum. Even during the middle of the week, these exhibits attracted a large number of patrons. This is an important cultural resource for southeast Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
