点评:This excursions has its good points and it’s not so good points. Firstly the good points. The scenery along the route is very pleasant, especially on the upper part of the line. The tunnels and viaducts are phenomenal feats of engineering. The volunteers do a marvellous job to keep this railways in such good working order and their enthusiasm cannot be overstated. I was even invited to sit next to the driver of the autorail which for me was a great experience. Also, the brasserie at Axat (le Central), with its terrace overlooking the river, arranged by the on-board staff, was a good place to eat. Now the minus points. The fumes from the diesel locomotive for the passengers are toxic for those seated on the open carriages. Worst of all, however, was the commentary. One has to endure six hours of uninteresting and screechy narrative in French and English for the entire six hours of the journey. May I suggest that the commentary is cut down by three-quarters and delivered in French only with an explanatory leaflet in various languages given those who cannot understand French. I’m sure this would allow passengers to enjoy and the scenery and save them from becoming brain dead from incessant commentary?
