点评:We stopped at the Grist Mill on the way to the Longfellow’s Wayside Inn. It was on the way to the Inn and we had arrived early for our reservation, having driven there from Newport and not wanting to be late. The current mill was built by Henry Ford (starting in 1925 and finishing in 1929). It replaced an earlier grist mill that had been on nearly the same site since the early 1700s but had fallen into disrepair. The new mill produced its first ground cornmeal on Thanksgiving Day in 1929. Today the corn and wheat ground at the mill are used in the bakery at the Inn and sold at the Inn gift shop, as well as at the mill itself. The Grist Mill in Sudbury Ma. is one of the most popular photographed places in the USA. It appears on many different calendars throughout the country.
The mill was designed to replicate a traditional 18th-century grist mill and is powered by water from a nearby pond. It was constructed using authentic materials and techniques, making it a remarkable example of historical preservation. The Wayside Inn Grist Mill in Sudbury, MA, is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm., mid Apr. to mid- Nov.
