Canterbury Shaker Village的点评
点评：What an amazing tour by our guide Kevin. This Shaker village was founded in 1792 (number 7 of 19). It covered hundreds of acres and at one time had over 300 Shakers on site. The Meeting House and the living quarters date from the 17th century. What makes this village so unique is that it was converted to a museum while Shakers were still alive and living and working here. It’s a time capsule into the lives of an amazing group of kind, generous souls. We learned so much about how innovative, successful and creative the Shakers were. What we absolutely didn’t expect to discover is how “cool” they were. These people weren’t stodgy or cultish. As Kevin pointed out they had the first long distance telephone in the area, were one of the first to use anesthesia, invented the cloth pin and seed packets. They were fantastic business people and very successful. And women were absolutely the equal of men. This village is the only one that never left the control of Shakers. It is a time capsule that should not be missed. Don’t miss a tour and if you can get Kevin…even better.
