点评:The Worthington glacier looks beautiful from the highway, but most people should only expect to admire it from afar or with magnification. It has receded so far up the mountain that only an experienced and in shape climber/hiker under the age of 55 should attempt it. I think it's about 250 yards up the path. When we went, we had to navigate many flies, a large mud puddle with more flies, then a dusty, rocky trail. Many small rocks were loose, so we had to be very careful climbing up the base of the mountain. I strongly suggest a walking stick, hiking boots, a partner, and water. We climbed about 100 yards up the path, but since we didn't have walking sticks, we turned back from the steepest section.
If you want to come closer to a glacier without risking falling down a mountain, just drive to the one near Anchorage, or in March, drive 40 miles south of Anchorage to the Portage Glacier. You can walk 3 miles across the frozen lake and, if you aren't afraid of calving, actually touch it. THAT was a bucket list experience! A tour boat also goes to the Portage Glacier in the summer.
Alternatively, you can drive 2 hours north of Anchorage to the Matanuska Glacier Park near Glacier View. Even though it's also receding, a trail that takes you right to this lengthy, breathtaking glacier.
