Dramatic lava formations and nice walking trails

点评：This is a neat area to visit just to the east of Lake Myvatn. The lava fields at Dimmuborgir are dramatic and cover a large scale area formed after volcanic eruptions around 2300 years ago. Visitors can get up close to these dramatic lava formations by way of a handful of designated and colour coded trails you can follow through the lava fields.
There is a fair sized (free) carpark at Dimmuborgir. You'll find toilets (200kr per use), a cafe and gift shop as well. The trailheads start from the carpark. They are well marked and easy to follow. The walks are mostly float but at times you have to navigate through up close lava formations. You'll see small caves, windows through the lava formations, craggy pillars and bridges all formed by lava cooling and solidifications. Such a neat place to visit if you want to see massive and dramatic lava structures up close.
