A truly wonderful lunchtime visit in the Umbrian sunshine!

点评：We were given a voucher for a wine tasting at Vineria del Carmine for my husband’s 75th birthday. We have had a house in Niccone since 1990 and had never visited this vineyard in all those years. What a mistake to make …. It was a beautiful day in July and we had arranged a lunchtime wine tasting online. We arrived in good time to find ample parking in the hills of Umbria. We know the area well as we often visit two restaurants in the vicinity. You cannot fault the views in this valley and as we were seated outside on the terrace we remarked just how beautiful an area it is. Carmine did not disappoint. We tasted a variety of wines accompanied by ‘stuzzichetti’ (small tasters of local delicacies). By this time, our digestive juices were running and we were offered a selection of pastas to satisfy ourselves for lunch. Our guide was interesting and informative (his English was excellent so if you are worried about getting the most from your visit, have no fear). The visit took approximately 1.1/2 hours and we were invited, at the end, to visit the shop where we were able to ( and did ) purchase wines and other products produced at the winery. We also actually purchased some very delicious truffle salt which had been on the table during the wine tasting. We are still using the salt and it reminds us of the thoroughly entertaining and delicious way to spend a lunchtime in the Umbrian sunshine.
PS we later remembered that our friends’ son was married at Carmine in 2019 to which we had been invited but were unable to attend due to illness. They thoroughly enjoyed their time there so this is another string to their bow.
