Thunder Hole的点评
点评：The second stop we made during our day trip to Acadia National Park was Thunder Hole. Shortly after 10 a.m. on a Friday in the middle of July, there were plenty of spaces available in the parking lot off Park Loop Rd. We didn't visit the small gift shop as we drove right by it, completely oblivious to its existence. I wish we had because this is one of the many places throughout the park that you can get a national park cancellation stamp in a Passport book. The stamp at this location has "Thunder Hole" in its lower text which would have been cool to have collected.
Crossing the street to the point of interest from the lot was quick and easy. Visitors can go down the stairs and walkway for a closer look or they can explore by walking over the surrounding rocks in the area. We found it fascinating as water rushed in only to be thrashed out moments later. However, we missed the really loud and crashing thunder-like sound that is made after the air escapes the cave closer to high tide.
The best time to visit this attraction is recommended to be two hours before high tide. To find out the low and high tide times for any given day and location, visit the Tide Predictions page on the NOAA's website. On the day we visited, low tide was 11:04 a.m. We were there at 10:15 a.m., so not the best time to visit. High tide was 5:22 p.m. so a better time would have been 3:22 p.m. Plan ahead and keep the tide times in mind when you visit.
