点评:The Marquis de Mores was originally from France and married an American woman. He moved to this area in 1883 (the same year Theodore Roosevelt arrived here) and built a summer residence for his family. He founded the town which he named Medora after his wife. His life is somewhat interesting as an example of a wealthy entrepreneur in North Dakota in the Gilded Age.
We spent about 30 minutes looking at the exhibits in the visitor center and watching the short film, then drove a short distance to park near the house itself and spent another 30 minutes taking a guided tour through the house. The docent enthusiastically told us a lot of information about the de Mores family and their lifestyle in the house. Many of the items in the house are original.
After the tour the historical society was about to present a free drama presentation on the veranda where someone would pretend to be a contemporary of the Marquis and give a historical monologue. We did not stay for that.
