Anderton to Chester
CLC Canaltime的点评
点评：Four of us had a week on the Cheshire canals from Anderton Marina, via an RCI timeshare exchange. After a friendly welcome from the marina staff and completing handover paperwork we were shown to our allocated boat - CLC’s 6-berth Spirit of Debdale. We had the obligatory tuition before setting off along the Trent & Mersey canal, then the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union and the main Shropshire Union to Christleton near Chester, where we turned around to retrace our journey back to base.
Unfortunately on the return leg the boat developed a mechanical fault that resulted in an almost complete loss of power. We called the marina who arranged for an engineer to meet us at the next accessible bridge and we managed to keep going (albeit very slowly) to the rendezvous point. The fault was duly dealt with and we were on our way again.
We cruised some lovely rural stretches, saw lots of bird life and enjoyed walking our dog along the towpath.
We were a little disappointed we weren’t allocated one of CLC’s newer boats - although ours was clean and well equipped, being 25 years old it was showing its age a little.
A final word of advice – there were four adults and a small dog on a 6-berth boat and I would say that is the limit as regards space on board.
