Enjoy Nature, History, and Art
Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum的点评
点评:At this park and museum, you follow the information found in a self-guided booklet lent to you when you purchase your entrance fee and that you return at the end of your visit. It is fairly easy to follow although I got turned around a couple of times, just small, easily fixed, hiccups. Throughout the park there are also many art pieces, many of which are for sale. There is also a store with books and many more items at the entrance.
Look at an old house, schoolhouse, and house. Examine the underground (now) Presidio Ruins. Meander through the Griffin Museum where you can read and see items related to 2,000 years of local history.
I particularly enjoyed sittings at one of the desks in the old schoolhouse while reading what life was like in the days on the old blackboards. Things such as: ‘Teachers will fill lamps, clean chimneys, and trim wicks each day.’ ‘Men teachers may take one evening each week for courting purposes.’
There is also a representative garden in the park but being off-season, I didn’t see much growing there.
It makes a lot of sense to visit both this presidio (fort) and the one in Tucson as there is a lot of history relating both of them. I found that there was more information at the Tubac Presidio than there was at the Tucson Presidio but each is unique and offers a different aspect of the history of Arizona and the US. The Tucson Presidio offers many docent led tours while the Tubac Presidio is more self-guided.
If you try reading everything in the Griffin Museum, you need 2-4 hours to visit this place so be prepared. The website says 45 minutes, but that’s if you don’t take the time to read anything.
I found that walking around town afterwards was quite a letdown. Too touristic, too many things for sale. Not my cup of tea, so I headed to another park instead.
Ample parking on site – easy access. Worth a visit.
