An amazing zoo - particularly for one it’s size

点评：GPZ is simply amazing. For those that understand its mission and history - and truly know zoos - there’s very little to find at fault here. Tremendous layout that is easy to navigate. Wonderful selection of species (over 400!) and the best part? The setting. The subtropical environment, which can get hot, is aptly suited for most animals care, living, and reproduction!
The setting is lush. Tropically so! Plenty of shade and you feel many times like you are in a tropical forest.
The “cage-less” exhibits make it look like most animals are at home and are either tremendously large or suitably quaint. All exhibits have nooks and crannies for animals to explore and seek shelter in.
The very, very few bad reviews here are simply off the mark. I have been to countless zoos and hold this one among the top 10%. This is particularly true for a zoo that is situated in a city of less than 250k people!
GPZ is a treasure for the city of Brownsville, the LRGV and the nation and international region as a whole!
When the zoo get very busy or when it’s extremely hot, it will have some days that seem like the animals and the place in general is a bit run down. This is true for all zoos. The subtropical climate here has its advantages and disadvantages for animals. The adv far outweigh the disadvantages in my opinion and is reflected in the great global reputation this zoo has for the propagation of endangered and flagship species.
