点评:It’s a pretty drive getting to the park, kind of a rollercoaster at times with all the hills and curves. There was hardly any traffic on the road and coming from Kerrville services are limited. Lost Maples is not as busy as other parks in the area like Garner, that offers more recreational activities. They do have great hiking trials, primitive camping sites and limited RV spaces. There are basically two trails, East and West. The park ranger was informative and recommended the East Trail. If you do the whole East trail it is challenging. For an easy hike you can go about 2 miles, to reach Monkey Rock and the Grotto and then turn back. Beyond that point if you continue, the trail gets very steep and rocky. Slow and steady is a must. It was nice walking through the forest at the beginning and hearing the birds chirping. Crossed a few streams and rivers which had been reduced to a trickle. I can imagine with some rain it could get interesting. We managed to traverse the steep section and came to an easier trail along the top of a 2,200-foot cliff. The views were good, and we could see the path below that we would be heading to. The trail down was shorter than the trail up which meant that it was going to be steeper. Heading down it was somewhat challenging, so we took it slow and steady. We hiked for about 7 hours, about 5 miles, which includes a half hour picnic break. It was fun but very tiring. I would come back and do again in the fall as I was told the fall colors are awesome.
