AVOID due to culture of animal abuse - practice responsible tourism!

点评：My family was looking forward to visiting Supai for months, but upon arrival, the excitement quickly vanished.
During our hike down, we witnessed the deplorable conditions of the mules that are used to deliver mail and supplies to the village. They are suffering from severe malnourishment - and I am talking skin and bones. They were hardly able to walk from being in such pain and discomfort. They had visible wounds and protruding bones. After researching more about the mules online, and from the scale of abuse that has been documented, it is clear that this is a chronic and systemic problem within the Supai nation. The animals are loaded down with heavy cargo, worked in excessive heat and extreme conditions, rarely offered water or food, and are not allowed to stop for breaks during their journey to and from the village.
Whether due to lack of resources or willful disregard, I refuse to be silent on this matter. I urge ALL travelers to practice responsible tourism and do their due diligence before visiting this area, inadvertently funding an abusive trade.
