点评:Writing this a few months late, but we had an extraordinary experience at this museum last August. We homeschool and were able to take our own field trip here on a weekday when schools were in session, essentially giving us the place to ourselves. My 3 young kids spent at least an hour just staring at the tanks of turtles and fish, mesmerized. There were fun interactive exhibits for them to play with. The staff were so kind and helpful, even letting us see some behind the scenes animals like their (80?) year old turtle Pete.
We finished off with the museum trails, which are truly a hidden gem. I used to run these trails and have always been fond of them; you can just breathe better in the woods. Well we happened to be there during dragonfly spawning season and walked upon a section of trail covered in (not exaggerating) thousands of them. It was so magical and happened completely by chance. They were everywhere , flying around and landing on us. The kids just ran and ran through the trail skipping and laughing. We walked back through views of beautiful cypress trees.
This museum, staff, and the trails are truly delightful. There has been some construction going on the past few times I’ve visited, but it is still plenty worth it - tons to see and friendly staff. I cannot recommend it enough!
