Incredible Wildlife Experience in Uganda!

点评：Our trip with Grassroots Adventures and our guide, Emmy, was one of the most life changing experiences! We traveled from the US with the goal of seeing wild chimpanzees and gorillas but we got to experience so much more! Emmy picked us up from Entebbe and we started our journey to three of Uganda's National Parks. Emmy is the most amazing driver and expert guide, we were so glad we didn't decide to travel on our own, it was much better with him leading us!
Our first experience in Kibale National Park was so amazing. We found the chimpanzees right away and were in a small group so we were able to observe them at a close but safe distance. We got amazing pictures and videos and will hopefully return soon as a hour allotted for tourists was not nearly long enough! Thankfully, the staff at Grassrootz has informed us of a longer viewing experience option for our next trip :)
In Queen Elizabeth National park, we got to take an awesome boat ride on the Kazinga channel to see hippos and elephants enjoying the cool water. It was a great way to get a different animal viewing experience than a typical game drive. Emmy did take us on a game drive in the park the next morning where we were lucky enough to see a leopard and the tree climbing lions - something we had not seen before on other safaris!
Lastly, we spent two nights in Bwindi to have time for a morning of gorilla trekking in the Impenetrable Forest. The gorilla experience was unbelievable and something almost indescribable. The gorillas were easy to find thanks to our expert trackers and the hike was very beautiful and full of cool plants and animals like monkeys and snails. Like in Kibale, our group was small and provided great opportunities for pictures and quiet gorilla observation. We did not want to leave the forrest!
All throughout our trip, we stayed in the most beautiful lodges and ate delicious food. Each lodge was unique but all had amazing staff and incredible views of the National Parks. Our favorite was the last lodge at Bwindi, the Buhoma Gorilla Camp, which was next to the most relaxing stream and had porches that looked out over the forest.
Our guide, Emmy, was what really made our trip special. We enjoyed learning about life in Uganda from him and how special the parks and animals are to the country. When we return, we will be asking for Emmy to guide us again! He always made sure we were comfortable in the car as the journey was sometimes long and took us to great local lunch stops!
We were so sad to head back to the airport at the end of our trip and hope to be able to return to Uganda and travel with Grassroots again in the future. Highly recommend working with Sander and the Grassroots team to plan your Ugandan adventure - it was one we will never forget! Many thanks to everyone we met, especially Emmy!
