点评:For my 30th birthday, I decided to celebrate in Costa Rica. I originally planned everything myself for two people—including flights, one hotel, private transportation, and three activities—which would have totaled around $3,800 USD.
Then I remembered that a college friend had just visited Costa Rica. After asking about her experience, she kindly shared her itinerary and referred me to CostaRica.org. I’m so grateful she did!
With them, I booked two hotels, private transportation (from the airport to Hotel 1, then to Hotel 2, and finally back to the airport), and three activities (each including roundtrip hotel transport) for just $2,870 total for two people. This didn’t include flights—I booked those separately through JetBlue out of Fort Lauderdale, which cost $313.53 per person roundtrip.
Grand total: $3,497.06. Honestly, incredibly reasonable!
CostaRica.org was professional, helpful, and highly responsive. I primarily worked with Lorena (via email) to create a personalized itinerary. She made adjustments as I requested while staying within my budget. While in Costa Rica, I communicated with Kathleen via WhatsApp—she responded quickly and thoroughly to every question. Both spoke and wrote perfect English. Customer service was truly 10/10. They also provided a super helpful guide on what to pack and what to expect.

🏨 Hotels: Arenal Springs Resort & Spa + Hotel San Bada
We were picked up from San José Airport by Mauren, who had a cute sign with our names and gave us a printed itinerary. She explained the plan clearly, then handed us off to our driver (whose name I sadly forgot). He was kind and even stopped at a local restaurant/souvenir shop for us to eat—perfect touch.
• Arenal Springs Resort & Spa in La Fortuna was stunning. I wish we had stayed longer! We were welcomed with complimentary cocktails and a sweet birthday surprise in the room. The property had amazing hot springs and delicious on-site restaurants—ceviche and sushi were both 10/10. We also got massages at the spa (I did the chocolate massage, my boyfriend had a back massage), both lasting an hour for $225 total. Even with the rain, the occasional clear skies gave us breathtaking volcano views. This hotel was a 10/10 and I would absolutely return.
• Our second hotel, Hotel San Bada in Manuel Antonio, was right next to the national park and had private beach access via a tunnel. Another birthday surprise greeted us here too! The pools looked lovely (including an adults-only pool), though we didn’t have much time to enjoy them. We had dinner both nights at the hotel’s Congo Restaurant—delicious and deserving of 5/5 stars.

🚗 Activities: ATV Tour + Sloth Encounter + Catamaran Cruise
• ATV Tour: Originally scheduled for the morning, there was a mix-up and we had to reschedule it for the afternoon. Kathleen quickly resolved everything, and CostaRica.org even offered us a free dinner at our next hotel for the inconvenience—above and beyond! The ATV ride was intense and fun, with real off-roading through mud and rivers. Pro tip: Wear water shoes and gardening gloves for better grip! The guides were fun and made the ride even more exciting by splashing us with water and mud. We also had a quick break at a river and were provided bottled water.
• Sloth Encounter: As a sloth lover, this was a dream! The guides took us to private properties and helped us spot wildlife using binoculars and a spotting scope. They even took photos and videos through the scope for us. We saw sloths, toucans, monkeys, and frogs, and enjoyed breakfast at a beautiful forest restaurant. Thankfully, the rain held off!
• Catamaran Cruise in Manuel Antonio was a perfect way to spend my birthday. The catamaran looked like a pirate ship and we were welcomed with fruit and a drink. Additional drinks were available for purchase. Dinner was freshly prepared on board (fish, chicken, or vegetarian—I had the fish, very tasty). While docked, we could paddleboard, snorkel, swim with pool noodles, or jump off a plank (which was high but so fun!). The water wasn’t clear enough for snorkeling and we didn’t get a sunset due to clouds, but that’s nature. I still had a blast!

🍽 Food
As a Latina, I’m used to this style of food—rice, beans, and meat were staples. I’d rate the food overall a 3/5. I’ve had better meals in other countries, but it wasn’t bad.
⸻
📌 Tips & Miscellaneous
• I went in June, right in the rainy season. I expected rain, which mostly came in the afternoons. Book your activities in the morning to avoid downpours!
• Costa Rica is the most expensive country in Latin America. Prices are similar to eating out in the U.S.—meals start around $25, and drinks about $14.
• Credit cards are widely accepted, and most receipts show USD conversions.
• Must-pack items: Mosquito repellent (bracelets for your arms and legs worked great!), water shoes for any wet activities, and lightweight rain gear.

Final Thoughts
Costa Rica has so much to offer—I recommend spending at least a week to explore more of the country. Due to time limits, there were a few things I couldn’t fit in, but this trip was absolutely unforgettable. I will definitely use CostaRica.org again and highly recommend them if you’re planning a trip.
