点评:This town is definitely worth seeing. Founded in the 1880,’s Chesterfield became a ghost town in the 1970’s when the last residents left. What makes it so unique beyond the preservation and restoration of the buildings is that the tour guides were former residents and have a personal history of the town and its people to share. That in itself was awesome!
The tours are free and we made a donation. You travel in a covered trolly pulled by a truck with a special seat from an actual covered wagon if you would like to sit there, so there is not much walking. However, it is not completely handicapped accessible as you do need to walk up a few steps to enter the buildings. You can take yourself around the town, but will not get the history or be able to go inside the buildings without the tour which is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours depending on how long you want to visit in each building. You can also see part of the Oregon Trail which passes through the town.
The volunteers are so friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Your first stop should be the store/ museum. It is worth seeing and it is where you start the tour. Porto potty is available there as well. The store sells, snacks, ice cream, cookbooks with recipes from those who lived in the town, and locally harvested honey and homemade jam.
Totally enjoyable and highly recommend it.
