Palazzo del Duca e Fontana delle Anatre的点评
点评:The Fontana delle Anatre (or Fountain of the Ducks) is located in the Piazza del Duca which is sandwiched between the 16th century Palazzo del Duca, which was home to the Dukes of Urbino, and the Rocco Roveresca.
The Fountain's design is attributed to the Venetian Stefano Di Tommaso and was constructed around the turn of the 17th century. The Fountain features a six sided water basin constructed of pink marble. Rising out of the water basin is a four sided stone structure with stone face masks on each side with volutes in between that hold up the round upper water basin tier. There are also a number of small stone ducks sitting on the top of the main water basin.
It is said that the Fountain was built to celebrate the drying up of the wetland marshes near Senigallia and the arrival of the Roveresco Aqueduct in Senigallia. The Lions which are situated on four sides of the Fountain were an addition at some stage after the initial construction.
Of note is the fact that the Fountain is off centre in the Piazza. This was to accommodate military parades that were undertaken in the Piazza.
