点评:The immense Louise Square (‘Luisenplatz’ in German) is the rather soulless central plaza of Darmstadt. Apart from a few sites (two Jugendstil fountains and two monuments), which are listed separately on Tripadvisor (Brunnen Luisenplatz, Ludwigsmonument, and Justus-Liebig-Denkmal), there is nothing much to see. Like 99% of the historic city centre, Louisenplatz was destroyed by the Royal Air Force air raid on September 11, 1944. The elegant 18th-century Kollegiengebäude on the north side of the square, which was not completely destroyed, has been rebuilt and now houses government offices. The shopping centre Luisencenter on the opposite side occupies the spot of the destroyed palace of the Landgraves. As the car-free square is a major public transport hub, we kept coming back to it to catch a tram or a bus but never felt the urge to linger.
