ALDER VINEYARD - FIRST VISIT OF 2025

点评：Saturday 14th June 2025, as As our journey down to Devon had not taken us so long we decided to visit The Alder Vineyard at Lewdown.
Alder Vineyard has been run by four generations of the Westlake family, lies on a south facing, well drained part of the Alder Estate. Set at the foot of picturesque Dartmoor, in the rolling Devon hills, the Alder Vineyard produces quality red and white grapes.
We arrived at the vineyard and were greeted by Sarah. Sarah is very passionate and very much involved with the vineyard; her enthusiasm is infectious and the wonder of the place is a beauty to behold.
Since we last visited in May 2024. Tom and the team had planted 1,500 vines to produce a Sauvignon Blanc wine. June 2025, Tom and the team have produced their first sparkling white wine, which we sampled, it is delicious and tastes like pear wine and is not too fizzy.
The family also built a purpose built café with wonderful views over their lovely Lew Valley vineyard. The café specialises in using locally grown produce and has gained a real reputation in this area and in 2023 and again in 2024 won the Best Café in Devon Award.
As it was a late in the day, we did not use the café as it was closing soon. Sarah came over and there were big hugs all around and we caught up on news and gossip, it was nice to catch up.
My husband and I purchased three bottles of the white wine and three bottles of rose wine as well as a bottle of their new sparkling wine. We will definitely be coming back here again, next time we are in Devon, maybe later on in the year. My husband and I packed our wine into the car and said our farewells to Sarah after thanking them for all their kindness to us.
